Daan Nel is the President of the International Association
of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI), 2024/2025, having first
joined its Southern African Branch in 1993.
He served as the Southern African Branch President from
2014 to 2017 and has been a member of the international
IAATI board since 2013.
With a background in law enforcement, Daan was a police
officer and detective in the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, before moving into the
private sector with Tracker SA. He has been a SAPS reservist in the South African
Police Service, National Investigation Unit, since 1999, holding the rank of Detective
Reservist Captain, and is currently the General Manager: Operations at Zonke-
Unicode. Zonke-Unicode is the gateway between the public and private sector for
stolen vehicle crime data and is a systems company that uses many different
datasets to prevent and combat vehicle crimes.
